E3 Overview

posted 09/06/05

There was a lot to be seen at this years E3. Microsoft certainly had the looks on their side with Natal, the face scanning, hands-free controlling device. Nintendo didn't disappoint either by showing a load of first and third party games including the new Super Mario Bros. Wii., The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks and Golden Sun DS and some new Wii colors for the Japanese.

Also a new technology called "Kind Code" aiming to make games easier for casual gamers but without spoiling the challenge for the core audience was presented officially for the first time.

While the big three all had interesting announcements during their press conferences, there were some things expected to be addressed that didn't receive any mentioning at all. Sony showed that the leaked design for the new PSP Go was no fake but failed to do the same for the PS3 Slim, although marketing wise this might have been the better choice if it eventually proves factual.

The announced support for photo sharing in "Home" came as a nice surprise but the notion that one can only make use of the feature by buying photo frames somewhat left a sour taste. Eidos showed that their new "Batman: Arkham Asylum" game does raise hopes for it to be the first good Batman game, not that the NES version was that bad really.
