Square Enix Pulls the Plug to Chrono Trigger Fan Project

It does not really come that surprising seeing Square Enix shut down the ROM-hacked project Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes after the developers worked over 5 years on creating a new storyline for the classic title. Naturally fans are outraged, wondering why Square Enix waited for the projects imminent completion before putting the legal finger on it's producers. However, almost the same thing happened in 2004 with a fan project called Chrono Resurrection, showing the companies intentions of keeping their work free from any modifications or alterings.

So again Square Enix's legal staff has claimed copyright infringement according to a cease and desist letter, putting an end to a promising fan project, whose developers must have known however that they were walking very thin ice using original character sprites of a series that is still being marketed today by it's company.
