Kanda Festival in Akihabara
posted 09/05/11
Once every 2 years Akihabara becomes the setting for one of the oldest and biggest traditional Japanese festivals: The Kanda Matsuri. It is one of the big three Matsuris but probably the only one showing such a contrast between modern Japanese developments like electronics, video games or Anime and the Mikoshi, a portable shrine that recieves a special blessing before being carried around the streets.
Of course that's not the only thing happening during the Kanda Festival, around the area of the Kanda shrine you could find everyone's favorite Matsuri past-times like gold fish catching or fortunetelling. Some people say that the food at Matsuris is never really good but I'd say stick to the sweets and easy snacks like butter potatoes and you should not be disappointed.
