Tokyo Metropolitan Government Releases Anime Production Textbooks
posted 09/01/29
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has released the Anime Textbooks, a series of books on the production of anime.
To produce the textbooks, the metropolitan government set up a joint industry-university collaborative organization including anime production companies and educational institutions that deal with anime. According to the government, “We have a world-class anime industry in Tokyo that has consistently delivered high quality products around the globe, and has been the world leader in turning out a great many artists. However, there has been a lack of young artists possessing excellent ideas and ability to produce, which is due to what has become a situation where curriculums are not being provided to cultivate talent in the industry.” Thus the metropolitan government established the organization and published the books with the aim of cultivating needed talent to promote the anime industry.
The Anime Textbooks include the necessary information to equip oneself with the knowledge and skills needed to make real anime. Book 1: The Japanese Anime Industry covers the history of anime and explains market trends. Book 2: Producing Anime offers real world examples of creating anime works from the planning stage to completion. These two texts are followed by Book 3: Fundamentals of Drawing and Book 4: Original DVD Picture Collection.
The four-volume set is priced at 10,290 yen.
