“Element Girls: Basic Chemistry Book on Loving and Memorizing the Periodic Table” (“Element Girls Gensoshuuki Moeteoboeru Kagaku no Kihon”), by PHP Interface , has gone on sale.

The book is a dictionary of the 118 elemental symbols, each of which is assigned a “beautiful female character” personifying them based on their chemical properties, uses, names etc, from atomic number 1 (hydrogen) to 118 (ununoctium). Information includes visual depictions, atomic weight, melting and boiling points and other data, in addition to year of discovery and discoverer, current state, etc. The story of each element’s discovery, chemical properties and the latest uses for them are also compiled.

Speaking about the details behind the combination of “love and chemical formulas” (“moe x kagakushiki”) for the publication, a company spokesperson said, “students should have a chance to look at the elemental symbols at least once, but most of them don’t remember them. We’ve personified them after designing educational, easy-to-remember visuals related to them.”

The book is priced at 1,995 yen.
