Classic Flavor in Akiba

Showa Shokudou

Akihabara stands for the latest developments in technology and digital entertainment. However, those that frequent the area know that it's also quite a historical place and this feeling is conveyed by the many shrines and old fashioned cafes and restaurants in the area.

With more and more of the older shops closing down it comes a bit surprising to see a place that focuses exactly on that classic flavor open it's doors right next to Sofmap's Mac branch on Akiba's Chuo Dori.

It's a small food joint selling dishes from the Japan's golden economic "Showa" period after the lost war. During that time one could not find a wide choice of international cuisine in Tokyo like it's the case right now. Back then the flavor was more like home made, with dishes served like a japanese mother would make them with restaurants offering tasty food for a bargain price, a system called "Teishoku".

"Showa Shokudou" now offers that exact flavor that will bring back memories to the older generation in Japan but also something interesting for foreigners looking out to get a different taste of the historical Japan.

Opening times are from 10:30 to 21:00 and the ordering is done by the popular ticket system.
