Taro Aso Too Busy For Manga
posted 08/10/27
Choosing Akihabara as the location for his first stump speech certainly held some significance. And even though Japanese youth is known for it's disenchantment with politics, it came as no surprise that Taro Aso held his speech mostly in front of supporters in their 20's and 30's who engaged in "Aso, Aso" chants during his appearance.
Compared to his famed Akiba speech about 2 years ago, this time the japanese PM actually talked about a lot of political issues, calling for calm on the financial markets, as well as declaring that he is putting off elections for now and leaving the current parliament intact.
Later on he focused on the much awaited otaku subjects, stating that he hardly finds any time to read his beloved weekly manga. Even though he finished reading last weeks "Sunday", he was yet to read the current "Young Jump" as well as "Morning".
He further went on to explain that he feels Japan's culture is not just "Kabuki or No" but also Manga. "Comic books are our subculture power are being read in not only Asia but Europe, the United States and Latin America" Aso declared in front of a cheering crowd.
When asked why in recent times he does not smile as much anymore he eloquently replied that for that reason he started his video blog on Nico Nico Douga ("nico nico" meaning "smile" in japanese). He also said that he can relax whenever he comes to Akihabara.
