Miyamoto Musashi (1584-1645) is probably the most famous swordsman in Japanese history, known for his two-sword style, as well as his life-or-death duels even from a young age. He also founded the Hyōhō Niten Ichi-ryū or style of swordsmanship and wrote the famous "Go Rin No Sho" a book comparable in kind with Sun Tzu's The Art of War.

Now acclaimed director Mamoru Oshii who is responsible for works like Patlabor, Ghost in the Shell and The Sky Crawlers is developing and writing Miyamoto Musashi: Sōken ni Haseru Yume (Musashi Miyamoto: The Dream of Riding with Two Swords). The film is scheduled for early summer of 2009 and will be directed by Mizuho Nishikubo, an animation director for many of  Oshii's previous films. Production I.G will be the house responsible.

It looks like it will be a hot summer next year with  Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance scheduled to open in Japan at a similar time. Oshii recently has been busy with Sky Crawlers, which also entered the Competition at the 65th Venice Film Festival, as well as a new stage play adaptation from "Tetsujin 28".
