Where is Toshiba going?
posted 08/06/24
As most of us know by now HD-DVD is dead. Many had assumed Toshiba would admit to its defeat in the HD-DVD vs. Blueray battle and sooner or later release their own Blueray player but that does not seem to be likely now. We have heard different news that they would keep fighting Sony with some groundbraking new technology and after hearing that Toshiba not only refused to include a Blueray player in their newest notebooks and even leaving out the option, we heard that Toshiba would release a new DVD player. Yes, before one breaks out in laughter one has to remember that the DVD at this point offers a vastly bigger amount of content and this time according to Toshiba this new player is supposed to contain a new cell processor technology to create a so far unseen quality upscaling result comparable to Blueray. This technology will also come integrated in their new Qosmio laptop series and we can assume it will also be integrated in TV's where it might actually make the most sense.
After a disastrous press event with "some far from publishable questions" one can do nothing but wait for the IFA technology show on August 20th in Berlin where Toshiba is expected to present the new technology to the public.
It seems that there are a lot of people though that reacted different than most of the general media and actually somewhat appreciate this new aproach.
What do you think about this? Please feel free to comment.
